We are a growing medical laboratory committed to providing accurate, reliable and timely diagnostic laboratory services. We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our professional team.
Key responsibilities
- Performing and reviewing laboratory investigations in accordance with approved procedures.
- Conducting diagnostic testing in areas including Microbiology, Haematology, Clinical Chemistry, Serology/Immunology and Molecular Diagnostics.
- Performing specimen reception, processing and analysis while maintaining sample integrity.
- Operating, maintaining and troubleshooting laboratory analysers and equipment.
- Preparing reagents, controls and quality-control materials.
- Monitoring and documenting Internal Quality Control (IQC) and participating in External Quality Assessment (EQA) programmes.
- Ensuring compliance with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), laboratory SOPs and health and safety requirements.
- Maintaining accurate laboratory records and entering results into the laboratory information system.
- Reviewing and validating results and escalating critical or abnormal findings appropriately.
- Assisting with equipment maintenance, calibration and troubleshooting.
- Maintaining adequate stocks of reagents and laboratory consumables.
- Participating in audits, quality improvement initiatives and laboratory accreditation activities.
- Training and mentoring junior laboratory staff where required.
- Maintaining strict confidentiality and professional standards at all times.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science/Medical Laboratory Technology or an equivalent recognised qualification.
- Registration with the Medical Laboratory and Clinical Scientists Council of Zimbabwe (MLCSCZ) and a valid practising certificate.
- At least 3–5 years' relevant post-qualification experience in a diagnostic medical laboratory.
- Strong practical experience in one or more of: Microbiology, Haematology, Clinical Chemistry/Biochemistry, Serology/Immunology, Molecular Diagnostics.
- Experience with laboratory analysers, quality-control systems and laboratory information systems.
- Good knowledge of laboratory safety, infection prevention and GLP.
- Experience with ISO 15189 or other laboratory quality/accreditation standards will be an added advantage.
