Herding for Health Project Manager
About the Role
The Project Manager holds overall strategic, contractual and delivery accountability, and directly supervises the Implementation Manager. This is a hands-on role requiring strong field presence.
Duties
- Hands-on project management & field presence: support implementation across grazing sites, bomas, restoration activities and community engagements; resolve operational challenges; co-lead milestones (farmer mobilisation, CBO establishment, enterprise launches, restoration campaigns); monitor plans, budgets and deliverables.
- Strategic leadership: hold accountability for delivery against the Grant Agreement; set direction and annual priorities; align with the broader Herding for Health model; escalate material risks to the Chief Community Development Officer.
- Stakeholder relationships: build relationships with the Grantor, local authorities, ZimParks, traditional leaders and community structures; represent the programme at national, international and donor engagements.
- Supervision: performance-manage the Implementation Manager and support the site team; review staffing, budget and procurement decisions.
- Budget & compliance: overall budget responsibility; ensure auditable accounts and record retention; act as primary contact for Grantor audits.
- Reporting & cross-programme coordination: sign off quarterly technical and financial reports; coordinate with the Peace Parks Foundation Herding for Health Project Manager and MEL function.
Requirements
- 8–10 years' programme/project management with a track record of hands-on, field-based delivery; experience overseeing other managers in a rural development, conservation or livestock/rangeland context.
- Contractual and financial accountability for donor-funded programmes (budget oversight, donor reporting, compliance); strong relationships with communal farming communities, traditional leadership, government and donors in Zimbabwe (Beitbridge District an advantage).
- Familiarity with the Herding for Health model or holistic rangeland management highly desirable; people-management and coaching experience.
- Hands-on, field-oriented leadership; excellent relationship-building and negotiation; strong strategic thinking with operational problem-solving; sound report-writing and budgeting; high tolerance for remote rural field conditions; valid driver's licence; willingness to be based in/near Maramani.
