Instruments Technician — Harare Factory
About the Role
Nestlé Zimbabwe is seeking an Instruments Technician to join its Harare Factory. The role is responsible for ensuring the efficient operation and maintenance of machinery, equipment and facilities within the factory. The technician will play a key role in minimising downtime, maximising productivity and maintaining a safe working environment.
Key responsibilities
- Carry out planned maintenance required on plant.
- Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance on machinery, equipment and facilities.
- Conduct calibration of all factory instruments.
- Identify and troubleshoot instrumentation, electrical and automation issues and perform necessary repairs or replacements.
- Collaborate with other departments to schedule and coordinate maintenance activities with minimal disruption to production.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, repairs and equipment history.
- Monitor and maintain inventory of spare parts, tools and supplies required for maintenance tasks.
- Follow safety protocols and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
- Assist in the installation, setup and commissioning of new machinery and equipment.
- Provide technical support and guidance to production staff regarding equipment operation and maintenance.
- Demonstrate proficiency in PLC programming, particularly Rockwell Automation, RS Logix 5000 and Studio 5000.
- Demonstrate proficiency in VFD configuration, particularly Rockwell Automation, PowerFlex 525 and 755.
- Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies and best practices in maintenance.
Requirements
- National Diploma or equivalent.
- Class One Instrumentation and Control Systems Journeyman Card.
- Minimum 2 years' experience in the instrumentation field.
- Proven experience as an Instrumentation and Control Technician in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
- Strong knowledge of electrical, instrumentation and automation systems.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical manuals, blueprints and diagrams.
- Familiarity with maintenance tools, equipment and techniques.
- Understanding of safety regulations.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
