Laboratory Technician / Scientist

Key responsibilities

• Carrying out routine diagnostic laboratory work on patient samples for diagnosis, management monitoring and treatment of patients.
• Ordering, inventory, storage and general stock control of all laboratory consumables and non-consumables.
• Maintenance, calibration and ensuring servicing of lab equipment.
• Supervising all lab personnel and activities.
• Training, i.e. being involved in all hospital training programmes where necessary or when need arises.
• Making sure all lab results are out on time, i.e. lab results turnaround.
• Laboratory internal and external quality control.
• Compiling monthly, quarterly and annual statistics and reports.
• Lab outbreak management.
• Participating in EPI activities and programmes and notifiable disease consciousness.
• General coordination, packaging, communicating and receipt of all samples and results for all referral tests.
• Supervision of nursing staff doing rapid HIV testing in the prevention of mother-to-child transmission programmes.

Qualifications and requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent.
• 5 Ordinary Levels including Mathematics and English.
• Three (3) years' experience in a similar environment.
