Audit Clerk
About the Role
Key duties
- Assist in internal audit assignments per the approved audit plan and Council's internal audit charter.
- Carry out routine checks on cash, bank reconciliations, payroll, procurement and stores records.
- Verify the existence, valuation and safeguarding of Council assets; maintain an updated asset register.
- Review revenue collection systems, receipting and banking procedures.
- Compile working papers, schedules and draft audit findings; follow up on implementation of recommendations.
- Assist in stock-takes and physical verification exercises.
Requirements
- A Diploma/Degree in Accounting, Internal Audit, Banking and Finance or an equivalent qualification.
- At least one (1) year's relevant experience in an audit, accounts or finance environment (local government an advantage).
- Working knowledge of Public Finance Management and local-authority regulations.
- Proficiency in MS Excel and computerised accounting packages.
- High level of integrity, attention to detail and confidentiality.
- Clean Class 4 driver's licence is an added advantage.
