About the Role

CIVICUS seeks an experienced external facilitator to co-design and lead a participatory, evidence-based strategy process delivering a member-owned strategy for July 2027–June 2032. Remote (global). Process period: August 2026 – September 2027; new strategy go-live 1 July 2027.

Key responsibilities
- Facilitate inclusive, participatory strategy processes with diverse stakeholders across globally distributed, multi-regional organisations.
- Synthesise evidence from CIVICUS sources (CIVICUS Monitor, CIVICUS Lens, State of Civil Society Reports, evaluations, staff input) and external evidence.
- Design and facilitate regional online workshops, focus groups and membership sessions; lead drafting and validation of the strategic framework (goals, outcomes, indicators, Theory of Change).
- Facilitate a Board strategy session for approval; support the transition to implementation, including operational planning and MEL frameworks.

Requirements

- At least 10 years' experience leading/facilitating organisational strategy development for international NGOs, membership organisations, networks or alliances.
- Proven ability to facilitate inclusive participatory processes across globally distributed organisations; experience integrating evaluation findings and evidence into strategy; experience designing Theories of Change and results frameworks.
- Strong facilitation, consensus-building and conflict-management skills; strong strategic analysis, systems thinking and qualitative research; understanding of global civil society, civic space, human rights, democracy and citizen participation.
- Fluency in English required; French, Spanish or Arabic an advantage. Knowledge of safeguarding, DEI, and feminist and decolonial approaches essential.
