About the Role

Secondary Book Press invites applications from talented, creative and experienced Graphic Designers to join the Publishing Department. The successful candidates will design high-quality educational books and other publishing materials in line with company standards and the in-house design style guide.

Key duties and responsibilities (reporting to the Senior Designer)
- Develop creative designs and page layouts for a variety of book projects.
- Design and typeset books in line with the in-house style guide.
- Interpret design briefs and translate them into visual concepts and layouts.
- Prepare page layouts, graphics, artwork and design elements for publication.
- Source, create and place illustrations, photographs, diagrams and other visuals.
- Make design corrections based on feedback from editors and supervisors.
- Ensure consistency in typography, spacing, colours, illustrations and overall presentation.
- Prepare print-ready files that meet quality and production standards.
- Manage multiple book design projects while meeting deadlines.
- Work collaboratively with editors, illustrators and the Publishing Department.

Requirements

Qualifications and skills
- A relevant Diploma or Degree in Graphic Design, Fine Art, Visual Communication, Multimedia Design or equivalent.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop.
- Practical experience in graphic design, preferably book design, typesetting and page layout.
- Creativity, strong visual judgement and excellent attention to detail.
- Good understanding of typography, colour, composition and print-production requirements.
- Ability to multi-task and meet strict deadlines.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills; able to work independently and in a team.
- Own a personal computer with the relevant design software.
- Experience in educational publishing is an added advantage.
