About the Role

Grade: C3. Reporting to: Manager Research, Training and Development. Department: Media Development and Governance. Station: Head Office, Harare. (2 posts.)

Duties and responsibilities
- Conducting research on developments, trends, policies and regulatory issues affecting the media sector.
- Monitoring emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), digital media and other innovations, and assessing their impact on journalism and media services.
- Conducting research on media freedom, access to information, ethics, professional standards, diversity and media sustainability.
- Undertaking horizon scanning, trend analysis and media futures research to identify emerging risks and opportunities.
- Preparing research reports, policy briefs, analytical papers and evidence-based recommendations for management and the Commission.
- Providing research input into the development and review of media policies, strategies, programmes and regulatory frameworks.
- Developing and maintaining partnerships with media organisations, universities, research institutions, technology experts and other stakeholders.
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of national, regional and international media developments.
- Supporting the commissioning, implementation and evaluation of research projects and studies.

Requirements

Qualifications, experience and attributes
- Degree or HND in Media Studies, Communication Studies, Public Policy, Development Studies or a related field.
- A postgraduate qualification in Research, Media Studies, Public Policy, Communication, Development Studies or a related discipline will be an added advantage.
- At least two (2) years' relevant experience in conducting research, policy analysis, media development, social research, regulatory research and preparation of analytical reports.
- Strong proficiency in qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, including data collection, analysis and interpretation of research findings.
- Strong understanding of emerging technologies, including AI and digital media developments, with proven ability in horizon scanning, trend analysis and media futures research.
