Summary: The incumbent serves as the post nurse under the direct clinical supervision of the Regional Medical Officer (RMO), providing medical care to Mission employees and eligible family members in accordance with MED-approved clinical guidelines. Responsibilities include medical equipment and supply management, vaccination program implementation, electronic medical record documentation, health education, and Mission emergency contingency planning.
Duties: The incumbent serves as the post's nurse with responsibilities that include the medical care of Mission employees and eligible family members under MED approved clinical guidelines, as well as maintenance and inventory of all medical equipment and supplies, implementation of a robust vaccination program, administration of group and individual health education programs, and medical emergency contingency planning for the Mission. The incumbent will work in the Medical Unit under the direct supervision of the Regional Medical Officer (RMO) or Medical Provider (MP).
- Direct Patient Care: maintain a primary care/urgent care clinic for all ICASS eligible employees and eligible family members, and an occupational health unit for embassy employees, LES, Contractors and DHA; evaluate and assess patients; provide patient education; respond to clinical needs including home visits, hospital visits and compound emergencies; participate in after-hours call.
- Medical Evacuations: arrange Medevacs through RMO/MP and MED/Foreign Programs; draft cables and referral documents; coordinate specialty appointments; assist patients with access to medical services and accompany as medical attendant when necessary.
- Medical Clearance examinations: prepare cables for fund cite requests; schedule appointments, labs and special tests; assist with clinical examinations and basic diagnostic tests; review completed clearance papers and transmit to MED/Clearances.
- Immunization Clinic for routine and travel-related immunizations using CDC and ACIP guidelines; maintain logs/databases; budget for, order and rotate vaccine stocks.
- Custody and Proper Internal Controls for the Medical Unit; maintain inventory and procurement of medical supplies and equipment; serve as Emergency Preparedness Coordinator.
- Maintain relationships with local medical providers and facilities.
Education Requirements: Degree (RN Level) in Nursing or Diploma/Certificate equivalent from an accredited School of Nursing. Must possess and maintain a valid nursing license or a current unrestricted Registered Nursing license from the host nation, country of origin, or the U.S.
Experience: A minimum of two (2) years of post-qualification work as a professional nurse is required.
Language: English level IV (Fluent) Reading/Writing/Speaking is required.
