About the Role
FAO Zimbabwe seeks a Veterinary Epidemiologist (National Project Personnel, 12 months renewable) for the Pandemic Fund project "From Early Warning to Early Action: Building Zimbabwe's One Health Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness and Response (ZIPOH)". Primary location: Harare.
Tasks
- Surveillance & epidemiological intelligence: strengthen national animal-disease surveillance, reporting and early-warning systems; conduct investigations, trend analyses and risk assessments; strengthen surveillance at livestock-wildlife-human interfaces.
- Disease preparedness & response: support preparedness planning for zoonotic diseases and animal-health emergencies; participate in outbreak investigations; contribute to contingency planning and simulation exercises.
- Capacity development: facilitate epidemiology, surveillance and One Health training (incl. ISAVET); promote WOAH standards.
- One Health coordination: promote integrated surveillance and information-sharing across animal, human, wildlife and environmental sectors.

Requirements
- Advanced university degree (Master's) in Veterinary Epidemiology, Epidemiology, Public Health, One Health, Animal Health or a related discipline.
- Minimum five (5) years' relevant professional experience in veterinary epidemiology, disease surveillance, outbreak investigation, emergency preparedness or animal-health programme implementation.
- Working knowledge (Level C) of English; national of Zimbabwe.
- Desirable: ISAVET/FETP training; Joint Risk Assessments; wildlife-livestock interface programmes; GIS and epidemiological software; familiarity with WOAH standards; prior collaboration with FAO, WOAH, WHO or Africa CDC.
